Imagine you’re working on a job site that’s blanketed with potentially flammable gasses. How comfortable would you feel running an internal combustion engine in this environment? That probably doesn’t seem very safe. Working with an open flame would more than likely feel even more insane to you!

Imagine that you’re a technician who repairs pneumatic systems for a living. You’re regularly asked to swap worn parts out and make sure that everything attached to an air circuit is working properly. You notice that several valves or regulators are bad. After checking your supply stocks, you realize that the parts you have on hand aren’t compatible with the equipment you’re repairing.

Have you ever been so frustrated with a piece of machinery that you’re convinced it has a mind of its own? You might have been trying to repair a computer or smartphone that continued to behave in an unexpected way. Perhaps you’ve tried to install a relighting kit, only to find that your favored antique lamp only seems to turn on when you want it to.

Pneumatic systems are loud and break down whenever the slightest amount of air leaks out of a circuit! You hear these kinds of complaints all the time, and there’s a good chance that you have some of these same preconceived notions. However, they’re only based on half-truths. In fact, pneumatic tools are quite reliable and provide a great deal of power in a relatively compact package.

Nevertheless, this kind of thinking has prevailed and continues to hold technicians back whether they’re doing construction or manufacturing.
